Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Readiness, made key remarks during a hearing on the current state of military readiness and the FY25 budget request.

In his opening statement, Rep. Waltz expressed gratitude towards the witnesses for their participation, stating, "Thank you to our witnesses for their time and participation in today’s hearing to discuss the FY25 budget request for military readiness."

Highlighting the financial aspect, Rep. Waltz emphasized, "The total Department of Defense budget request for FY25 Operations and Maintenance is nearly $338 billion, the largest appropriation category."

Addressing concerns about asset sustainment, he remarked, "We have seen time and time again that sustainment of existing assets is disregarded for the procurement of new items."

Rep. Waltz also stressed the importance of addressing the state of barracks, stating, "This subcommittee has spent a lot of time, and will continue to do so, providing key oversight of the unsatisfactory state of our barracks."

Expressing frustration about the readiness of the Naval fleet, Rep. Waltz highlighted the need for improvement, saying, "I remain frustrated with the readiness of our Naval fleet."

The hearing focused on critical issues related to military readiness, with Rep. Waltz urging military leaders to prioritize readiness and address challenges faced by the armed forces.
